Protestors have threatened to disrupt an OEUK industry awards event in Aberdeen this evening.
Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion said there will be protestors “singing, chanting and holding banners” outside the P&J Live awards venue tonight.
They said they have targeted the Shell-sponsored event, claiming it is“self-congratulatory” for people in an “unbridled fossil fuel industry” causing the climate disaster.
OEUK’s awards include categories on Energy Transition, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and People and Culture, as well as celebrations for early career professionals and apprentice of the year.
Protesting the awards tonight, the activists said they demand a “stronger UK transition away from fossil fuels”.
OEUK and Shell have been asked to comment.
The threat to the OEUK awards comes as Just Stop Oil protestors threw paint over the Barclays building in Aberdeen last month, which saw them arrested.
The Union Street offices house Neo Energy and the primary target of the protest, Barclays bank – while oil giant, Shell, will move in soon.
Shell said at the time there were none of its employees in the building, adding that it respects “the right of people to protest and express their point of view”.
The energy giant added “that society needs to take urgent action on climate change.”
